The beautiful blooms of Floriade grabbed the attention of 27 folk on the Mature Mob trip last Thursday. Despite cloudy skies, broken only briefly by warm sunshine, they enjoyed the wonders of the garden bed designs inspired by flavours that stimulate our senses and thus the 2011 theme name of A Feast for the Senses. A highlight was a pre-booked drive through the grounds in the Cooma Community & Sporting Bus by driver Stuart Reid. Many then took advantage of a ride on the giant ferris wheel to view the display from above. After a couple of hours of exploration, the group moved on to Red Hill for a private viewing of one of Canberra’s premium gardens. There they were also treated to afternoon tea and an organ recital by the owner. Keeping with the floral theme, the passengers had fun on the bus journey with competitions relating to flowers !
